The official first media parley of the Super Falcons with the members of the press came up today Thursday November 1st 2018 at the five aside pitch of Jubilee Chalets Resort, Epe, Lagos. The press briefing which started at exactly 11:30am.
Thomas Dennerby Head coach and captain Rita Chikwelu of the Super Falcon are on hand for the media session to attend to all questions from the media team around.
The Head Coach Dennerby said on his team and preparation for the Total African Women’s Cup Of Nations 2018 in Ghana: “We are almost with a full house now and every player in camp have really been doing well. We are determined as a team not to only impress in Ghana but also successfully defend our title.”
Super Falcon’s captain Rita Chikwelu sahred her views on their camp and Total AWCON 2018 title defence, She said:” We are happy being here and very grateful to the NFF and people of Lagos for offering us this beautiful facility. Our target in Ghana is to win the tournament again.”
Thomas Dennerby also shared his views on the camp venue, “We love our camp (Jubilee Chalets Resort) and are very pleased to be here. We appreciate the NFF and the Lagos State Government for offering us this serene place.”
He went ahead explaining the choice of today’s friendly with Dominion Hotspur, Dennerby said: “The boys are a bit faster and will give us some tough challenge on the pitch which will be good for the team.”
Meanwhile, Chairman of the NFF Women Football Committee and a ranking Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Hulayat Ayo Omidiran visited the team camp on Monday and charged the girls to prepare well and hard for the challenge of defending their continental crown.
Already, Dennerby has been able to welcome a couple of the 19 foreign based professionals invited to the camp, which gradually moves into intensive stage during the week with a final list expected before the team jets out of the country.
15 home-based and 9 foreign based players took part in the morning training session yesterday Wednesday 31st of October 2018 at Atlantic Hall Sports Centre Epe. More foreign-based players will join camp before dinner time today.
Charity Adule, Chinwendu Ihezuo, Osinachi Ohale, Josephine Chukwunonye, Rita Chikwelu, Ogonna Chukwudi, Ebere Orji, Chinaza Uchendu and Faith Michael were at the morning training session, while Ngozi Okobi and Halimat Ayinde came into the country on Wednesday morning.
The Super Falcons Ngozi Okobi & Desire Oparanozie made were amongst those who started playing at a very young age or the National team.
The Captain of the Under 20 Super Falconets Rasheedat Ajibada said she is not afraid to compete with the foreign player and that she is in the camp to gain more experience and also learn from great strikers like Desire Oparanozie and Asisat Oshoola. She said she will be happy if given the opportunity to play at the highest level of Women’s Football in Africa.
The Falcons are drawn to play South Africa, Kenya and Zambia in Group B of the 11th Women Africa Cup of Nations, with Cape Coast as venue, starting with an opening encounter against the Banyana Banyana on Sunday, 18th November.
Nigeria emerged champions of the biennial continental houseparty in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2016, defeating hosts Cameroon 1-0 in the final of the last edition in December 2016.
