Ibom Angels started the game on the front foot after a 2-0 win over Edo Queens in their semi-final fixture. The first half ended goalless as both sides maintained the tactical set up by both coaches. The second half burst into life with Juliet Sunday getting the opening goal of the game in the 47th minute. The only goal that separated both sides in the Final.
Rivers Angels held on to the advantage as they saw out stiff competition from the Ibom Angels who aimed to equalize. The result means Rivers Angels are back to back Aiteo Cup champions after their victory last year at the maiden edition of the Aiteo Cup which was hosted by the Soccer Temple of Agege, Lagos when Rivers Angel won on Penalties over Nasarawa Amazons.
This win made it 8 times Rivers Angel will lift the FA Cup now called Aiteo Cup trophy.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who shone brilliantly for the Nigeria U20 girls at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in France in August, maintained her clean sheet as she stood in the goal line to stop Ibom Angels a first national trophy.
Former Super Falcons’ captain Nwabuoku has proven a point today with her performance, having been overlooked in the recent list of players called up for the defence of the Women Africa Cup of Nations title.
Rivers Angel presented an array of some of the best performers in Women Football in the country, and names like Evelyn Nwabuoku, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Rofiat Sule easily strike a note in the Team.
Despite the defeat, the Ibom Angels went home with a sum of Five Million Naira as prize money while the champions Rivers Angels went home with Ten Million Naira.
The Aiteo Cup Trophy was presented by the Executive Governor of Bayelsa His Excellency Seriake Henry Dickson who also was in attendance and supported by the representative of Sponsor company Aiteo.
