Matchday 26 games of the Nigeria Professional Football league earlier schedule for Sunday 25th June 2017 have now been moved to Wednesday 28th June 2017.

These much was revealed by the League Management Company through a letter signed by its Chief Operating Officer Salihu Abubakar and sent to all club Chairman and general managers of the Nigerian Professional Football league about the rescheduling of Matchday 26 fixtures.

The resheduling is due to the upcoming Eid-el Fitr Sallah holidays 25th - 27th June 2017, all Match Day 26 games are hereby moved to Wednesday 28th June 2017.

However, Rivers United Fc vs Shooting Stars Fc Matchday26 game will be played 24th June 2017 due to the engagement of Rivers united in the CAF Confederations Cup. 

Remo Stars Salefu Ochowechi’s 19th minute free kick goal against Gombe United on Match Day 22 turned out the most popular for the fans who participated in the voting for Match Day 22 VAT Wonder Goal selection.

 

Ochowechi was shortlisted alongside Mohammed Mohammed of ABS and Festua Umanah of Wikki Tourists. The three players had scored fantastic goals but Ochowechi’s free kick from over 30 yards and which ended Remo Stars six match winless streak picked more votes from fans who voted on the website to edge out Mohammed who was twitter voting fans’ favourite.

 

Ochowechi picked up 80.6 percent of the320 votes on the website, translating to 257 votes while Mohammed had 2.2 percent, just seven votes with Umanah securing 17.2 percent, 55 votes.

 

But 45 percent of voters on the twitter handle preferred Mohammed’s goal for ABS against Niger Tornadoes, given him a total of 89 of the 198 votes while Ochowechi got 32 percent of the votes, 63 votes and Umanah had the remaining 23 percent of the votes, amounting to 45 votes

.

After the collation, Ochowechi secured a total of 320 votes and was followed by Umanah who polled a total of 100 votes while Mohammed’s tally was 96 votes.

Ochowechi thus becomes the third winner of the VAT Wonder Goal which commenced from Match Day 20. He will receive a prize money of N150, 000, half of which is to be donated to a Charity of his choice within the state where the club is domiciled.

 

Other winners have been Rivers United Ayo Saka and Akwa United’s Ubong Friday.

Players of Rangers International and Kano Pillars are to wear black arm bands during their rescheduled Match Day 9 fixture in Enugu this Sunday as a mark of respect for the 30 football fans that died in Calabar, Thursday night while watching European football in a commercial viewing centre.

 

The fans were said to have been electrocuted when live electricity wire fell on the building following a thunder strike.

 

The League Management Company (LMC) announced the mark of honour for the deceased and directed players and officials of the two teams to observe a minutes silence before kick-off.

 

“Football is a universal game driving passion in men, women, boys, girls, the rich and the poor hence we have to commiserate with the unfortunate 30 who could also have died in a stadium”, the LMC Chairman, Shehu Dikko said.

 

He urged for more safety measures to be put in place by owners of arenas where football is played and or watched on screens.

 

“Our sympathy at NPFL goes to the families of the dead fans and we pray that their soul rests in peace. They will be honoured during our rescheduled game between Rangers and Pillars in Enugu this Sunday”, Dikko stated.

The League Management Company, LMC has rescheduled two Nigeria Professional Football League matches involving Akwa United Football Club.

 

The fixture adjustment was contained in a letter signed by the LMC Chief Operating Officer, Salihu Abubakar and made available to the Chairman of Akwa United FC, Elder Paul Bassey.

The Match day 22 fixture between Rivers United and Akwa United earlier scheduled for 31st May 2017 has been shifted to 26th July, 2017 in Port Harcourt.

This is due to Rivers United's involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup Competition.

Also Match day 23 encounter between Akwa United and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi earlier fixed on 7th June has been moved to 14th June 2017, while the Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Uyo still remains the venue.

The fixture adjustment means that Akwa United will not be in action on two Match days, but will only return to action on 11th June 2017 against Champions, Enugu Rangers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu on Match day 24.

The league organisers have announced a new returning date for the Nigeria topflight due to some outstanding matches

The League Management Company has announced May 21 as the new resumption date for the second stanza of the Nigeria Professional Football League season.

In a statement, Salihu Abubakar, the LMC Chief Operating Officer said the two weeks shift from earlier scheduled date of May 7 was in view of concluding the rescheduled matches involving Enugu Rangers and Rivers United.

“We also have deemed it right to accommodate the State Federation Cup finals which obviously will feature some of the NPFL Clubs”, Abubakar said.

“We didn't think it would be appropriate for the clubs to carry over their first stanza fixtures into the second round.''

Both teams, who were dropped out from the Caf Championship League to the Caf Confederation Cup, with only Rivers United reaching the group phase have varying outstanding games.

 

In a related development, Abubakar confirmed that Rivers United will host Remo Stars on Wednesday, May 3, while Rangers will welcome Plateau United in another rescheduled match.

Gombe United’s Afolabi Abdulwaheed, Ayo Saka of Rivers United and Enyimba’s Ogechukwu Leonard have been shortlisted for the inaugural VAT Wonder Goal award for Match Day 20.

 

The three made the cut from the total of 18 goals scored across the centers in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) last weekend.

 

The video footage of the nominees’ goals have been uploaded on the NPFL website, www.npfl.ng and fans are now to vote for any of the players whose goal is considered the most spectacular.

 

The League Management Company (LMC) had introduced the Wonder Goal scheme to reach out to fans and enhance engagement between the Clubs, the fans and the communities. The scheme has now be renamed VAT Wonder Goal after it was endorsed by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) as a platform to promote tax education and engage football fans on the necessity and benefits of paying taxes to government.

 

Abdulwaheed scored on the 10th minute of the first half for Gombe United in their match in Enugu which though ended 2-1 in favour of Rangers International with goals from Godwin Aguda and Ebuka Okeke.

 

Saka’s lone strike on the 39th minute had secured all three points for Rivers United while Leonard’s long range effort in Shagamu gifted former champions, Enyimba International their first away win this season.

 

“The VAT Wonder Goal while seeking to reward marksmanship of the highest quality in the NPFL by celebrating eye-catching and brilliant goals is also a platform to support the Federal Government’s drive to increase revenue from the non-oil sector, especially through taxes”, the LMC stated while announcing the partnership with FIRS.

 

Voting will end by 11.59am on Sunday, May 27 and the player whose goal attracts the highest number of goals will receive the prize money of N150, 000 from which 50% will be donated to a Charity of his choice within the city where the club is based.
