“Victor Lodurum”; also known as the Best Overall Performing Athletes at the 2nd edition of GCU Relays will be offered automatic scholarship for a maximum of three years.
This latest input to the GCU Relays was disclosed at a media briefing in Lagos by Arc. Ovo Charles Majoroh President General GCUOBA Worldwide.
Indeed the Overall Best Performing Athletes in both the Boys and Girls category will earn a full tuition sum of N50,000 per year over a three year period.

“We want to motivate the athletes with the a sum of N150,000 scholarship spread over three years (N50,000) each for the male and female all round best athletes,” the GCU Old Boys President General said.
Preparations for the 2019 Government College Ughelli GCU Relays are in top gear as organizers have fixed November 16th as date for the Meet which is expected to attract participation from about 30 secondary schools from across the country.
“Last year we recorded an encouraging number of schools including some of the iconic colleges like Igbobi College Lagos, Government Secondary School Afikpo, Edo College Benin among others attended the Meet which was a huge success. This year we expect at least 30 schools to take part in the event.”
Majoroh explained that the Meet will feature 100m, 200m, 4 x 100m and 4 x4oom Relays. He explained the motivation behind the GCU Relays which is organized by the Old Boys Association and supported by Shell, NNPC, NDDC and Pillar Oil.
“There could not have been a better time than now when we are still hurt by the dismal outing of Team Nigeria to the World Athletics Championships in Doha, where our team returned with only one Bronze Medal,” Majoroh said, believing that “in the next four to five years, products from this programme will represent and win medals for Nigeria in International Meets.”
