Super Falcons camp is bubbling as players are reporting to camp ahead of the African Women’s Nations Cup in Ghana next month.
The camp is expected to be full after the just concluded AITEO Cup Women’s final on Tuesday. The Super Falcons has been drawn against South Africa, Zambia & Kenya in group B. The draw ceremony was held in Accra, Ghana host country of the competition on Sunday, October 21. The Super Falcons and the Black Queens were top seeds for both group A and B as they are the host country and the reigning African champions.
In preparation for the competition Thomas Dennerby the head coach has already called up 48 Super Falcons players to defend Nigeria’s title, amongst which the final squad will be picked
Super Falcons players have started arriving at the Epe camp ahead of their preparation for the Total African Women’s Cup of Nation in Ghana.
The arrived players at the moment include: Goalkeepers: Christie Ohaerieku and Onyinyechukwu Okeke. Outfield: Joy Duru, Mariam Ibrahim, Anam
African Women Cup Of Nations 2018 group games will be played with the hosts Ghana playing the first match of the tournament against Algeria on the first matchday scheduled for Saturday, November 17 same day other group A opponents Mali and Cameroon face off.
The Super Falcons will begins their title
The most successful team in the history of the competition, with Nine titles from eleven editions. The Super Falcons edged Gambia 7-0 on aggregate to maintain their record of qualifying for every edition.
According to the structure of the competition the group winners and runners-up will advance to the semifinals with the winners advancing to the finals.
Three teams from the continent will advance to the 2019 FIFA World Cup scheduled for France, the winners of the 2018 AWCON runners-up and third place winners.
In the Qualifying stages the Ethiopian striker was the highest goal scorer with 8 goals, followed by her country mate Erehima Zerega with 5 goals, Nigeria Desire Oparanozie with 4 goals, and Jermaine of South Africa with 4 goals.
The tournament is scheduled to hold from Saturday, November 17 to Saturday, 1st December 2018 across Ghanaian cities Accra and Cape Coast.
