African and Commonwealth 100m hurdle champion Tobi Amusan and Blessing Okagbare will lead 14 other Nigerian athletes as part of team Africa for the upcoming IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava.
A total of 77 African athletes from 15 African countries was listed by the The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) after the completion of the 21st African Senior Athletics Championship in Asaba.
The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), listed 16 Nigerian athletes alongside 61 other African athletes to represent Africa at the third edition of the IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava, scheduled to hold from September 8-9.
The selection of the African team based on merit system comprises of all Gold and Silver medallists from each event at the just concluded African Championships in Asaba, including other top performers who have been selected as reserves.
Top on the list of Nigerian selection are: Tobi Amusan (100mH & 4x100m), Glory Nathaniel (400mH & 4x400m), Grace Anigbata (Triple Jump), Temilola Ogunrinde (Hammer Throw), Kelechi Nwanaga (Javelin Throw), Blessing Okagbare (4x100m), Joy Udo-Gabriel (4x100m), Rosemary Chukwuma (4x100m), Ese Brume (Long Jump), Chioma Onyekwere (Discus Throw), Divine Oduduru (200m), Abejoye Oyeniyi (110mH) and Chukwuebuka Enekwechi (Shot Put).
While the trio of Yinka Ajayi (4x400m), Mercy Ntia-Obong (4x100m) and Chidi Okezie (4x400m) were picked as reserves.
Other African athletes included on the list comprises of 20 South Africans, 9 Kenyans, 6 Moroccans, 4 from Egypt and Ethiopia respectively, 3 from Botswana, 2 from Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, and Algeria respectively, and an athlete each from Burundi, Ghana, Swaziland, Uganda, and Djibouti.
